Playamar Route

Introduction

Get ready to sweat playing beach volleyball or feel the speed on a windsurf board. Playamar offers multiple possibilities, like relaxing under a parasol and lying back on one of its comfortable sun-loungers while knocking back an excellent cocktail.

Given its proximity to the centre of Torremolinos, Playamar is easily reached, including by foot, via avenida Benyamina. One kilometre long and on average 50 metres wide, it’s one of the areas people prefer when having a fantastic holiday in Torremolinos.

It has an interesting variety of restaurants (Spanish and international), a wide range of hotels and a multitude of services so you can relax and forget about things. The Playamar towers, an example of the ‘relax architecture’ typical of Torremolinos, are found in this area.

Casa de los Navajas

Los Navajas House is located close to the Bajondillo’s beach and can be accessed by the street with the same name or by Las Mercedes street. It is opened everyday and the entrance is free. The house was built in 1925 and belonged to the family Luue-Navajas linked to the sugar cane business in the river mouth of the river Guadalhorce.

This industry was favored by the irrigation implied by the supply of water to Malaga, a huge engineering work that altered the course of water from Torremolinos mills to Málaga.

This Neomoorish palace with Mozarabic retouches holds wedding celebrations, exhibitions, concerts, plays and has become a historic building that must be seen.

Plaza del Lido

It is a roundabout located on the Paseo Marítimo of Torremolinos on the Bajondillo Beach, the sculpture in the centre is a recreation of a painting by Picasso entitled "La Carrera". Just at the junction of the roundabout with the Paseo Marítimo there is a tourist office.

The Paseo Marítimo is magnificent, a delight for those who want to do sport walking, running, cycling or rollerblading, as it has a signposted cycle lane (I think I remember from the Chiringuito el Sardiná to almost the end of the Bajondillo).

Oficina de Turismo

The Torremolinos Tourist Office is located in a privileged place in the city, the Bajondillo Tower. This municipality stands out for its famous and exquisite gastronomy. Its personal way of offering "pescaíto frito" (fried fish) is an attractive exponent of the purest Andalusian flavour.

In this office, the visitor can get up to date on the fiestas, such as the Romería de San Miguel, the fiestas of San Juan, or the "veladillas" of the neighbourhoods. Initiatives such as 'El día del Turista' or the 'Día del Pescaíto', are dedicated to representing the character of Torremolinos. It will also be possible to request information about the cultural offer, which is on the rise during the summer season.

Torremolinos is an ideal destination for those looking to combine sea and leisure. At the Bajondillo Tourist Office visitors will find the most complete guides to organise their stay to enjoy outdoor activities, Aqualand, the largest water park on the Costa del Sol, Cocodriles Park, or a list of nightlife to complete their personalised trip.

Edificios Playamar

Built on a large site of 147,363 square metres on a slight slope towards the sea, the complex of flats, commercial premises and Playamar sports area comprises 21 buildings of 15 storeys. Its architect was the winner of a competition organised by a Spanish-Israeli investment group for the construction of the 945 flats.

Like La Nogalera, the complex has a clear urbanistic affiliation by contributing to the fabric of the city through the creation of several streets and a large avenue running through the complex and dividing it in two.

The idea was to develop the dwellings in height, thus freeing up space on the plots for recreational green areas. Inside, a series of pedestrian walkways between green carpets and shrubs lead from the dwellings to the communal leisure areas, which included sports and children's areas, swimming pools, restaurants and party rooms, a private club and a laundry.

The urbanisation even had a shopping centre, as services were still scarce in this area of Torremolinos at that time, thus favouring its self-sufficiency and its constitution as a true holiday town. A plot located to the NW of the complex was dedicated to the technical pavilion, which brought together the service elements of the urbanisation.
